CANNECT

Application

CANect is a unique, all-in-one transportation app designed for city public transit, offering easy and cost-effective travel solutions for both locals and foreigners. Its universal design ensures an accessible and exciting traveling experience, simplifying urban adventures.

My Role

My role was to conduct interviews to uncover the challenges and needs of travelers in public transportation through in-depth discussions. This insight directly informed my UX/UI design for our application, aiming to create an intuitive and satisfying travel experience that addresses users' real-world concerns.

1.6 million people

rely on public transportation with most of these individuals experiencing trouble completing trips smoothly due to capacity, accessibility, and schedule issues. According to the Census’ 2017 American Community Survey, nearly half of those who do not speak English rely on public transportation.

Preliminary Research & Interviews

To uncover design solutions and understand an individual's experience with Canadian transport we conducted semi-structured interviews and surveys among 10 people highlighting how they plan a trip, the process of the trip, emotions throughout the process, and the end result. We combined this with other preliminary research to categorize the wide set of issues experienced.

Customer Wayfinding

Problem: Customers often cannot find terminals within the transit buildings.

Solution: Custom map layouts for our users (must have blueprints and city layouts for customization).

Micro-managing Apps

Problem: Switching between apps for wallet and tickets. Not organized in a file. Have to look for it.

Solution: All-inclusive app, purchases can be made and saved through the application.

Language Barriers

Problem: There are many languages spoken in Canada besides French and English.

Solution: To avoid incorrect language errors, the app will start and master the top 10 languages besides English / French.

CANECT

A transportation application designed to tackle any and all issues individuals might experience when using public transit in the city. It is nothing like other transit applications. Instead of having multiple applications for multiple interventions CANect, an all-inclusive app with built-in features will help foreigners and locals find the most convenient and cost-effective way of traveling. Simultaneously, it emphasizes a universal design making the traveling experience easy and exciting for all. It reinvents how you take adventures using transit.

Next Steps

We are encouraging the usage of public transportation by consolidating all user requirements in one location and making travel simpler and more exciting. By doing this, one can reduce their carbon footprint by using fewer single-passenger cabs, uber, and personal vehicles, resulting in a 45% reduction in CO2 emissions.

Moving forward, our plan is to develop a comprehensive mockup of our application, incorporating all the planned features. Following this, we will conduct a user testing survey with diverse groups, such as local and international students and workers, to evaluate the app's functionality. After completing the survey, we'll collect feedback on their experience and the app's impact on their travel. This process will enable us to refine and enhance our application, making it more user-centric and effective..
