"Paper Rings" narrates a tale of lost love, obsession, and regret through spoken word. A naive young woman recounts her journey of love, regret, and the anguish of heartbreak to her unhearing abuser. Initially a story of intense romance and adventure, it morphs into a saga of pain, hatred, and domination as her partner becomes the villain of their narrative. The spoken word piece captures her awakening to the toxic, manipulative reality of what she once called love. A year on, free but still haunted, she reflects on the past, wondering why she deserved such a fate. She speaks of mixed memories, the hurt inflicted, and her paradoxical longing for a love she recognizes as her greatest sorrow and regret.

It aims to convey to its audience that feeling sorrow and devastation following the end of a toxic relationship is a natural response. It navigates the phases of love and heartbreak to illustrate this journey. The work emphasizes that one is not accountable for someone else's actions or obligated to mend them. It affirms that you are a resilient individual, deserving of a life unburdened by the weight of love's misgivings.
